GOLD: Bright Spot Ahead UAlberta Business
This illustration, and the ideas behind it, are so beautifully rendered. Full of metaphor and mixed metaphor and richly thought-provoking—such a well-executed cover! The cover writing is strong too and makes it come together so cohesively.
Graphically simple, yet clever illustration draws your eye into the main line. The cover lines reinforce the strong visual statement. The secondary lines and logo are understated and don’t impede eye movement. It is quiet, yet clever. Very thought-provoking.
SILVER: Truth First New Trail
Striking visual along with short, bold cover line leaves you gasping to know more about this story. The short secondary lines provides just enough insight to let us know what we’re in for; however, the texture and grittiness of the image suggests we may be left feeling uncomfortable.
A stellar, thought-provoking cover about a complex issue in Canada. The layering and blurring of the image, the contrasting size of the type and the well-written lines combine to convey some of that complexity. Even the pulling back of the logo seems to indicate that the story to come is less the final word, but perhaps just a continuing of the conversation. Very nicely executed on many levels.
