Feature Design

Judges’ comments
GOLD: Designers of the Year Western Living Magazine

Beautiful photography, which the design smartly puts centre stage and uses to its full advantage. Design elements and typography add and enhance the layout without overwhelming the imagery. It starts with a splashy all-type opener, and continues with a handsome package of photography, which, although pulled from diverse sources, fits together cohesively. The pacing and flow mixes pieces of different lengths in a spacious grid which allows the images to breathe freely. Good typographic hierarchy, with multiple entry points, is evident. Following its whiz-bang opener, the text quietly supports the imagery throughout this lengthy but organized feature design. The design choices are consistent throughout.

SILVER: The 21 New Trail

Wonderful detailing of typography and graphics that work to pull many varied pieces of visual content together. An excellent piece of editorial design that entices a reader into the content with its nuances and many beautiful details, while holding it all together with a firm grasp of the grid and solid editorial design skills.
